Workplace Health and Safety Queensland have released a new five day Health and Safety Representatives course and a one day Health and Safety Representatives – bridging course.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has released these new courses to help new and existing Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) to perform in that role with all the powers vested in them beyond 31 December 2012.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland encourages HSRs to complete training so that they can provide a full range of safety assistance to the persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), and their fellow workers.

For the Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) who request initial training or for those who previously attended the 3 day 30630QLD Course in Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Representative, you should consider the following training courses:

  • • Existing HSRs who have completed the 3 day 30630QLD Course in Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Representative after January 2010 will need to complete a 1 day bridging course (covering provisional improvement notices, cease work and a legislation update) in order to continue to exercise all the powers vested in them after 31 December 2012.
  • • HSRs who have not completed the 3 day 30630QLD Course after January 2010, or if you are a new HSR who requires initial HSR training, you will need to undertake a 5 day HSR training course in order to obtain the pre-requisite training on the legislation that allows the issuing of Provisional Notices and directing workers to cease work beyond 31 December 2012.

The five day and the one day courses provide participants with the skills and knowledge to enable them to fulfil the role of HSR as set down in section 72 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
